Why Did JBJ Disband?

The announcement of the formation of the group in 2017 was met with a lot of enthusiasm and expectation. Howbeit, as time went by, things began to get sour between the JBJ members and their management following a dispute over contract renewals.

On March 14, 2018, Fave Entertainment, in a public announcement, made it open to the media that the current individual contracts of the group members were on the verge of expiring and expressed hope that an agreement would be reached soon. However, after many meetings between the representatives of the JBJ members and the management, the negotiations fell through.

Following the failed contract negotiations, Fave Entertainment decided that they would not be pushing the contract renewal any further. The JBJ members eventually released their last album as a group titled ‘New Moon’ on April 17, 2018. Fave Entertainment organized and planned the group’s final tour which was scheduled for two days. The tour which began with its first concert on April 21, 2018, was held in Seoul, South Korea. The widely acclaimed South Korean group was officially disbanded on April 30, 2018.

Following the disbandment of JBJ, the group members took to other ventures ranging from acting to solo acts. Sanggyun made a return to Hunus Entertainment, which was his former management before signing for Fave Entertainment. However, in a statement signed by a representative of the company it was revealed that Sanggyun would not be rejoining the group he was a part of before he left.

Takada Kenta went into acting and even landed major roles in several drama films. Donghan, on the other hand, went on a vacation to Japan before finally announcing his plans of being a solo artist. The JBJ leader, Donghan, made his debut as a solo act on June 19, 2018, with the release of both his first EP and first music video. Longguo was selected alongside two other K-pop stars as MCs for the South Korean music program, The Show.
