Forte was brought up in different parts of California including Moraga and Lafayette alongside his sister, Michelle Forte. While his father was a stockbroker, his mother, Patti was a teacher.

He began his comedy career with the release of his comic book, 101 Things to Definitely Not Do If You Want to Get a Chick which became a success. Thanks to this, he got a writing job for The Jenny McCarthy Show.

But then, the show was short-lived and then he moved to Late Show with David Letterman where he stayed for 9 months before he was dropped.

Forte then took to other things including stand-up comedy and acting while also writing before he joined Saturday Night Live in 2002. He remained there until 2010. As an actor, he appeared in many films including his highly acclaimed Nebraska in 2013.
