If a list of the most successful film series were to be made, the Fast and Furious franchise would definitely make the cut for it is Universal Pictures’ most successful and biggest franchise. With a combined gross of $5 billion across all of its films up to the 8th installment, it is the 10th highest-grossing film series of all time! The racing-focused film series released her first of many films to come in 2001. All of the films have been commercial hits and though the earlier ones received mixed to lukewarm reviews from critics, the later versions have fared far better critically. Will There Be A Fast and Furious 9?

To answer that question quickly, Yes! There will be a Fast and Furious 9 and why wouldn’t there be? The box office returns of every movie on this franchise have been staggering and filmmaking is all about the money after all.

Talks for a 9th installment had begun even before the release of the 8th film, The Fate of the Furious which was released in 2017. The franchise had announced that the series would end with a 10th installment which many are speculating would be titled, Fast X with a release date slated for 2021, as of this writing.

Not much is known yet about the plot of the 9th installment but with the return of Cipher, the film’s longtime villain played by , chances are that a part of the plot could include the Fast and Furious family hunting her down.

There are also speculations that the 9th film could head to outer space! He would be the third MMA fighter to join the franchise after who featured in the 7th film and who was the first following her appearance in the 6th film.

The crew of the film also sees the return of old faces including the director Justin Lin who directed the third, fourth, fifth and sixth Fast and Furious films. The screenwriting credit goes to Daniel Casey who is best known for writing the 2018 science fiction crime drama film, Kin.

In February 219 in London, the pre-production process of Fast and Furious 9 begun and by June 2019 filming had started. Diesel took to his Instagram account to make the big reveal with a video of himself on the film set. Filming was said to have been halted for a day in July following an onset accident involving a stuntman. The accident was serious and landed the stuntman in the ICU but fortunately, by August 2019, he had been discharged.

When Is the Release Date?

The release date of Fast and Furious 9 has undergone a couple of changes. It was first slated for release in April 2019 but was shifted to April 2020, exactly a year forward. However, in early 2019, Universal Pictures revealed that the movie’s release date had been pushed forward by a month and is slated for release on the 22nd of May 2020.
