A good percentage of viewers have described The Affair as one of the most interesting TV shows made in recent times. The plot, the portrayal from its cast, as well as the directing, have all been lauded with thumping reviews from critics. Like the title already gives away, The Affair follows the story of what happens after two people who are already married to other people fall in love and begin an affair. Deep into the fourth season of the show, it was announced that The Affair would have its season 5 debut on August 25, 2019. It was also announced that it would be the final season of the show, thus, removing the possibility of a season 6 of The Affair. The 5th season would feature 11 episodes, one episode more than the previous seasons except for the second season which had 12 episodes.

The 5th season sees the return of its main characters Dominic West, Maura Tierney, and Julia Goldani Telles. One of the show’s previous main characters who returned as a guest is Jake Siciliano as Martin Solloway. Also, Omar Metwally who made his debut on the show as a guest in the second season returned to play his role as Vik Ullah.

The fourth season of The Affair saw the departure of two main stars, including as her character as Alison Bailey was killed off. Wilson’s departure was followed by who portrayed Cole Lockhart. Jackson’s absence in the show’s final season was expected, following an announcement during the run of the fourth season. Speculations at the time were that he could return as a guest in the second episode of season 5 but that did not happen. Season 5 features some flashforward episodes where viewers got to know what happened to Jackson’s character Cole.

The 5th season of The Affair has seen the addition of a couple of major characters. They are Janelle Wilson and Joanie Lockhart portrayed by and respectively. Eight recurring characters who have featured in previous seasons also return, they include John Doman, Kathleen Chalfant, Richard Schiff, and Abigail Dylan Harrison. Two members of the recurring cast who joined the show in the fourth season and appear in the 5th season are Christopher Meyer, Russell Hornsby, Zenobia Shroff, and .

New additions to the recurring cast line-up for the 5th season include , Michael Braun, Claes Bang, and Lyriq Bent. The final episode of The Affair would air on October 27, 2019, bringing the curtains down on the show for good.

Awards Won By The Affair

While there will be no season 6 of The Affair, it’s five seasons are enough to rate it as a successful series. Upon its premiere in August 2014, viewers were quick to describe it as one of the best TV dramas they’d seen at the time. The first season received a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes while Metacritic gave it an 85 out of 100. Reviews have remained very positive from then on and the 5th season has already been rated at 86%.

The Showtime show has a number of accolades to show for its success. They include a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama which it received in 2015 for its first season. In the same awards season, two of its main cast – Dominic West and Ruth Wilson received Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor and Best Actress in a TV series respectively.

While English actress Ruth Wilson won the award, making it her first Golden Globe from two nominations (she had received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film for her titular role in Jane Eyre), West lost to of House of Cards. West has gone on to win at least two Satellite Awards for Best Actor in a TV series. Maura Tierney, for her portrayal in the second season, won a Golden Globe for Best supporting actress.
