Since she made her debut at the age of four in the television series, a historical drama named Tang Ming Huang where she played Princess Xianning, she has starred in films like King of Beggars, Hou Wa. According to Chinese policy, despite her film and television credits, she couldn’t be recognized as a professional actress until she was 16 years old when she made her debut as a professional actress for the film, The Story of a Noble Family.

Now a professional actress, Yang Mi’s push as a serious actress began to yield fruit as she faced increased popularity for starring and forming in more mature roles in films like Strange Tales of Liaozhai, The Return of the Condor Heroes and Wang Zhao Jun.
