Yolanda Hadid was born as Yolanda van den Herik in a town called Papendrecht, located in the Netherlands on the 11th of January in 1964. Her childhood was a difficult one as her father died when she was just seven – his death was caused by an automobile accident. Consequently, she and her only sibling, a brother named Leo were raised by their mother. In a bid to care and provide for her family, Hadid worked a number of odd jobs. It is not known if she had a high school education and it is highly unlikely that she went to university as her career in modeling began when she was sixteen.

Yolanda Hadid was discovered by the designer of Dutch descent, Frans Molenaar and thus began her career. During the first show she did for Molenaar, she was seen by the founder of the modeling agency Ford Models, Eileen Ford who noticed her on the runway and immediately signed her. Hadid had a modeling career that lasted for over a decade, giving her the opportunity to work in major cities around the world. By 1994, she had settled down in Los Angeles after her marriage to have time for her family.
