Zoe Perry is an American film and television actress. She is most recently known for her role as the young Mary Cooper in the television series Young Sheldon. Perry who has been an actress from a young age has many TV series appearances and a few feature film role to her credit.

Some of these include roles in ABC TV series The Family and political thriller series Scandal which also stars her father Jeff Perry who played the character, Cyrus. Among the movies, she has appeared in are No Pay, Nudity, and Deception. She also shared the stage with her mother Laurie Metcalf in the Broadway play, The Other Place.

Zoe Perry was born on September 26, 1984, in Chicago, Illinois to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry who are both actors. Perry’s first appearance on television was in the ABC series Roseanne, on which she played a young version of the character Jackie Harris. The older Jackie Harris role on the series was portrayed by her mother Laurie Metcalf.

Although Perry had a brief stint on television as a little girl, she did not particularly put much effort into pursuing a career as a professional actress until her college days as she was too shy to take up acting during her high school years.

After graduating from high school, Perry was admitted to Boston University but later transferred to Northwestern University and only began performing while a student at Northwestern. Even then, she maintains that she only took up acting to meet interesting people and make new friends.

Upon her graduation from Northwestern, Perry relocated to New York City in a bid to find acting roles. While there, she picked up minor roles on some series including her role as Wendy in a 2006 episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

One of Perry’s most notable TV series roles is her role as Jane on ABC’s The Family. She appeared in 9 episodes of the series in 2016. Prior to her role on The Family, Perry appeared in other TV series such as Conviction in 2006, My Boys between 2006 and 2010, Cold Case in 2007, Private Practice in 2008, Ave 43 in 2009 and Grey’s Anatomy in 2012. In 2013, Perry performed in the Broadway show The Other Place with her mother.

Perry appeared in 9 episodes of the 6th season of Scandal in 2017 and is part of the main cast of Young Sheldon where she plays Mary Cooper the young Sheldon’s protective mother, a role which once again gets her to play a younger version of her mother’s role in CBS TV series The Bang Theory which spun off Young Sheldon as a prequel.

Perry appeared on 9 episodes of ABC’s TV series Scandal season 6 in 2017 as Samantha Ruland, a ruthless villain working for a secret organization determined to bring the US government to its knees. She infiltrates the government by getting the attorney general David Rosen into a romantic relationship with her. Perry’s father, Jeff Perry had a starring role on Scandal as Cyrus, the White House Chief of Staff and President Grant’s right-hand man.

Zoe Perry comes from a family of actors. Her mother Laurie Metcalf has won several acting awards and nominations over her four decades plus career. She has been a recipient of 2 Tony Awards and 3 Primetime Emmy Awards. She has also been nominated for Academy Awards and Golden Awards on various occasions. Metcalf started out her career onstage and has won Awards and nominations for her performance in plays like A Doll’s House and Three Tall Women.

She has also starred and appeared on numerous TV shows and films. She earned Emmy Awards for playing Jackie Harris on the comedy series Roseanne. Metcalf has appeared on Frasier, The Norm Show, The Big Bang Theory and Desperate Housewives, among other TV appearances.

Perry’s father Jeff Perry is a renowned stage, film and television actor. He is most recently known for his starring role in the political drama series Scandal where he plays Cyrus Beene. He was on the show between 2012 and 2018. Jeff Perry began his career on stage, he co-founded of the Steppenwolf Theater Company along with two of his high school colleagues in Chicago.
