In the late 1990s, the phrase “to me, to you” became very popular thanks to the children’s TV game show, To me… To you… which was presented by Barry Chuckle and his brother Paul, both of whom were known as the Chuckle Brothers. Barry who was a part of the comedy duo with his brother as the other half was also involved in a lot of things from pantomimes to TV shows, and much more.

Life of Barry Chuckle

Although the To me… To You... star became popular as a part of the Chuckle Brothers together with his brother Paul, it was as Barry David Elliott that he was born on the 24th day of the month of christmas 1944 in Rotherham, West Riding of Yorkshire. His father, James Patton Elliott was a Gang Show performer popular as Gene Patton while his mother Amy Elliot was unsurprisingly a dancer.

Barry was raised alongside his brother Paul Harman Elliott who will later be known as Paul Chuckle and two elder brothers, Jimmy Elliott, and Brian Elliott. Following in the footsteps of their father, all the four brothers took to entertainment with the two eldest known professionally as The Patton Brothers. They later appeared on the television series of their brothers, ChuckleVision. Apart from the two, Barry also had another brother late Colin who did not join the entertainment business that the family came to be known for as well as a sister, Sheila Torr who was married to English comedian and performer, Bill Waddington.

By the 1960s, Barry and his brother had followed the entertainment path of their father and elder siblings and won Opportunity Knocks TV talent show in 1967, launching them for the great things that the two would achieve in the coming years and decades. In the 1970s, they became very popular faces on the talent show, New Faces.

The ChuckleHounds and ChuckleVision came in the 1980s, and in the 1990s, Barry and Paul came up with their very popular game show, To Me … To You … which was on from 1996 to 1998. The two brothers did lots more with various children’s entertainment.

Apart from their TV shows, Barry Chuckle and his brother have appeared on many stages together, sometimes performing alongside The Patton Brothers. Their appearances stretched from The Blackpool Tower Circus as far back as 1974 to The Chuckles of Oz in 2015. The highly talented brothers have also been into music and have released an album To You to Me in 1995. In 2014, they worked with Tinchy Stryder in releasing To Me, To You (Bruv) which is a charity single towards raising funds for the African-Caribbean Leukaemia Trust.

Through their career, the brothers gained several recognitions in the form of awards including the British Academy Children’s Awards and Great British Pantomime Award.

Death

In 2008, a rumor went around that Barry had died after suffering from a heart attack and many fell for the hoax which in turn sustained it for close to two years after it first began. Eventually, the brothers were forced to release a statement stating that the news was false.

Unfortunately, Barry Elliott died on 5 August 2018 following some health issues he suffered. Not too long before his death, even as he was having issues with his health, something he kept hidden from everyone including his manager and his brother Paul Elliott, Barry and Paul began another show, Chuckle Time. According to Paul, Barry had wanted to perform for as long as possible.

While much is known about Barry Chuckle, one thing he has kept very much away from the public is his private life. It is known, however, that he had a wife whose name is Ann Elliot.

Before his death, it was said that he had lived with his wife for close to 45 years, although it is still not known if they had any children.

 

How Did He Die

The death of Barry Chuckle came as a big shock to fans of the entertainer. This is mainly because there was nothing heard about him suffering from any illness. However, Chuckle had been down and battling various health issues.

According to his brother, Barry had been diagnosed with bone cancer a year before he died but decided to keep it hidden from the public. Before his death, the cancer had already spread to his lungs and ultimately contributed to his death.
