Scott Aukerman got his big break in the 1990s, thanks to being spotted by “Mr. Show” co-creator Bob Odenkirk at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles. Odenkirk was impressed with his performance so much that he brought him on to write for the show. Aukerman also made occasional appearances in the sketch comedy show which ended in December 1998.

He has won an Emmy Award at least twice and was in 2017, nominated for a Writer’s Guild Award for writing the 88th Academy Awards.
Behind every successful man, is a woman they say and for Scott Aukerman, that woman is Kulap Vilaysack. Aukerman is so similar to his wife with regards to what they do. Vilaysack is a comedian, writer, director, producer and a podcast host. They are widely regarded as the power couple of podcast. Here is everything you need to know about Scott Aukerman’s Wife.
Who Is Scott Aukerman’s Wife, Kulap Vilaysack?
They may have gotten married in 2008, but Scott and Kulap have known each other since 1998, a time when Aukerman’s career was only beginning to gain momentum. Kulap was just 18 years old at the time. It took them a year before they started dating and since then, the duo has stuck by each other’s side, helping themselves to grow into the stars that we all love today.
Their initial meeting took place during a taping for Mr. Storm, the sketch comedy show where Aukerman got his start as a writer. Kulap who was born in Washington, D.C. had relocated to Los Angeles where she attended the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising.
Scott Aukerman’s wife, unlike him, had a bit of a rough childhood. Her family, originally from Laos were forced by the Vietnam war to cross the Mekong River to Thailand where they lived in a refugee camp after which they immigrated to the United States. They first landed in Washington D.C where Kulap would be born on May 11, 1980.
They soon relocated to Eagan, Minnesota where Kulap would spend the most part of her childhood. She would come to have two younger sisters named Anita and Alyssa. In Minnesota, her parents set up a restaurant business where Kulpad helped by washing plates as soon as she was old enough.
Kulap grew up watching her parents constantly get into horrible fights and during one of their brawls, she was greeted with the shock of her life when her mother revealed to her that the man who raised her (whom she defended during the frequent fights) was not her biological father. She was only 14 years old at the time. In 2014, she started a documentary series titled Origin Story where she journeys to Laos to discover more about her roots as well as find her birth father.
But before Scott’s wife grew to the point where she could produce her own documentary, she took classes at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles where she also performed. She started out by making uncredited appearances in TV shows and films. Her focus has been largely on TV where she has appeared in a handful of gigs from Children’s Hospital to her husband’s IFC TV series Comedy Bang! Bang!
She is best known for Who Charted? – a podcast which aired on her husband’s Earwolf podcast network from 2010 to 2018. She received much acclaim for creating Bajillion Dollar Propertie$. The fake reality show is a parody of Million Dollar Listing and Property Brothers. The show aired on Seso, NBC’s streaming service but was left without a home after the network shut down the service in 2017.
