Here Are Some Facts About The TV Show
1. The Show Course Design
The show features 12 contestants competing head-to-head in different matchups on the miniature golf obstacle course. There are ten supersized themed holes which include; Dutch Courage, Caddysmact, Arc de Trigolf, Tee’d Off, Sweet Spot, Surf OR Turf, Slip N’ Putt, Log Roll, The Distractor and Mt. Holey Moley.
The winners from the first round move on to the next round and only 3 contestants will make it to the third and final round. In the final round, they compete on the ‘Mt. Holey Moley’ hole in a 3-way contest after which a winner emerges. The winner gets a ‘Holey Moley’ plaid jacket, a $25,000 grand prize and “The Golden Putter” trophy.
2. Holey Moley Is Highly Competitive
Even though there are comic elements in the show, especially with the way the contestants are dressed, it is an actual and serious competition with a grand prize. When the show was going to start, ABC put out a casting call for a new game show seeking miniature golfers to compete against one another for a grand prize. The show also takes place in front of a live audience.
3. Amateurs Vs Pros
From the design of this game, one doesn’t need to be a professional golfer to excel at it. Any regular player of mini-golf understands that it takes some peculiar skills to become an expert and these skills don’t come to play in a regular golf game. The course has been designed as an equalizer on many levels and many professionals and well-seasoned golfers who have been contestants didn’t make it far in the competition. This has made the show very inclusive and fun to watch as underdogs who have shown resilience are winning out over professional athletes.
4. Holey Moley Has Been Successful
The show was a success from the very start. The premiere episode of the show which aired on the 20th of June 2019 narrowly missed out coming first in the overall rating for the night. With a total of 4.82 million viewership, ABC came second next to Fox. The show went ahead to hit ten million multi-platform viewers in three days. In October 2019, ABC ordered a second season despite the fact that the show just debuted in the previous summer.
5. Stephen Curry’s Involvement
Asides being an executive producer and presenter, the NBA superstar also serves as the resident golf pro. According to co-host Rob Riggle, is a big part of the show and weighed in on every aspect of the setup. Although he might not be able to be on the show all year round due to his already busy schedule, he will remain a big part of the show.
