Seemingly, the popular saying that “your face is your fortune” is targeted at the beautiful damsels and handsome dudes of the entertainment industry who have achieved great heights in their career, thanks to their arresting looks. But it would appear that Marty Feldman negated the meaning of that saying, he rode to fame and popularity on the wings of his unconventional face which sports a badly mangled nose from a boxing accident and a pair of bulging eyeballs which came from a hyperactive thyroid disease he had in his formative years.

During his lifetime, Marty Feldman achieved great milestones in comedy, one of the true pioneers of the art. He embraced many genres of comedy, from slapstick to situation comedy, down to surrealism and satire. He even revived the wonderful days of silent comedy. In addition to comic art, he acted in a few movies, notable among them are The Bed Sitting Room (1969) and Young Frankenstein (1973). Among his comedy series, At Last, the 1948 Show and Marty standout from the rest. He was also an accomplished musician, he recorded a couple of LP records during his lifetime. Before his final bow, Marty Feldman won a few awards and accolades for his effort in entertainment.

Bio

The hilarious comedian who was famous for poking fun at people, as well as himself, came into the world as Martin Alan Feldman in London UK on the 8th of July 1934. Feldman was born to Jewish immigrants of Kiev, Ukraine origin – Cecilia and Myer Feldman who earned his livelihood as a gown manufacturer.

His formative years were spent in London East End – an area that accommodated the dregs of London. The young Feldman left his academics at 15 with the hope of making a living as a jazz trumpeter, but he was not really successful in that field. The appearances he made in several shows earned him the title “the worst trumpeter in the world”. By the time he was 20 years old, he had made the conscious decision to become a comedian.

Although he ended up as rich and famous, Marty Feldman’s early years were fraught with a lot of ill health and troubles. His eyeballs started to protrude and became misaligned as a resultant effect from a childhood thyroid disease. He later developed Graves’ ophthalmopathy. In addition to his clinical condition, a car accident, an infantile injury, a boating mishap, as well as the effects of the reconstructive optical surgery he had to undergo as a child may still be blamed for his appearance.

Wife, Siblings

Despite the fact that he was never the faithful type, he maintained one marriage until his demise. On the 19th of September 1935, he tied the nuptials with Lauretta Sullivan who later died in Studio City LA at the age of 74. According to a few biographies written by some of his cronies, women found Feldman highly attractive despite his unusual facial looks.

On his own part, the late comedian was never a principled man when it came to sex, shreds of evidence point to his repeated unfaithfulness to his wife during their 23 years of marriage. Marty Feldman claimed that he had fallen in love 500 times, blaming it on his success which he claimed went straight to his crotch.

He was raised alongside a younger sister named Pamela who currently resides in Tereken district of the Belgian town of Sint-Niklaas. Pamela is no longer using their family name of Feldman.
