Absentia is a crime drama mystery series that revolves around Emily Byrne an agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)who goes missing and mysteriously reappears after six years. She was last known to have gone in pursuit of a notorious serial killer in Boston. Years after the search for the missing special agent was over and everyone had accepted that she wasn’t coming back, Emily reappears with no memory of where she has been for the past six years. She must now try to fit into the life she left behind and also seek to find out the mystery behind her sudden disappearance which made her family, friends and work colleagues assume she was dead. Things begin to get even worse when she is now seen as the prime suspect in a series of recent murder cases, Emily must also reclaim her identity and prove her innocence.

Although much of the mysteries have been resolved in the first season with Emily finding her captor and exerting her revenge on him, season 2 of the thrilling drama series promises to tackle some of the unrested issues about the FBI agent’s kidnapping. Filled with a whole new perspective, the episodes of Absentia season 2 also promise to widen its scope to center mostly on the supporting characters.

Stana Katic as Agent Emily Byrne

Canadian-American actress Stana Katic plays the role of the show’s lead character Agent Emily Byrne. After returning from her mysterious six years’ disappearance, Emily is tagged a fugitive and is accused of being the perpetrator of several murders across town. She must now redeem herself and try to figure out the cause of her disappearance and where she has been for the past six years.

Stana Katic was born in Canada and has earned her nationality of being an American as she has lived there for the majority of her life. Both of her parents are Serbians born in Croatia. She received huge credits for her role in the crime comedy-drama TV series Castle, where she played the role of Katherine “Kate” Beckett, starring in 171 episodes from 2009 to 2016.

Patrick Heusinger as Special Agent Nick Durand

Patrick Heusinger is one of Absentia Season 2 cast members whose role as Special Agent Nick Durand is quite crucial in the success of the series. Nick is the husband of the estranged former FBI Agent Emily Byrne. After Emily resurfaces from her six years’ disappearance, he begins to feel a little bit of guilt for quitting his search for her and moving on.

Patrick began his acting career in 2005 when he starred as Young Lars in Sweet Land. Since then, he has starred in more films. The highlight of his acting career came with his starring roles in TV shows like Gossip Girl, Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, Royal Pains and Casual.

Cara Theobold as Alice Durand

Cara Theobold played the role of Alice Durand, the new wife of Nick Durand and also the stepmother of Flynn. Following the reappearance of Emily, Alice started out being cool with Emily but as time goes by, she starts getting jealous and suspicious that she might be losing her husband’s affection and it makes her spiteful of Emily.

Cara is an English actress, so far in her acting career, she has starred in only two feature films: Zombie Spring Breakers (2016) as Ellie and Ready Player One (2018) as Tracer. She starred as the main character in TV series such as Downton Abbey, The Syndicate, Together, Crazyhead, Absentia, and Manhunt.

Absentia was created by Matt Cirulnick and GaiaViolo and has aired for 2 seasons with a total of 20 episodes.

The show aired on AXN network and its first season premiered on September 25, 2017. The last episode of the first season aired on November 20, 2017.

Absentia season 2 premiered on June 14 2019, and each episode of the show lasts for an average of 42 minutes.

Oded Ruskin directed the entire 10 episodes of the first season. In total, Ruskin has directed 14 episodes on the show, 10 in the first season and 4 in its second season.

Adam Sanderson took over from Ruskin and directed episodes 5, 6 and 7 of the second season.

Episodes 8, 9 and 10 of the second season were directed by Kasia Adamik.

Season 3 of the thriller series is to be unveiled in 2020, and the filming is underway in Sofia, Bulgaria.
