America’s 42nd President Bill Clinton is arguably one of the most influential and popular men as far as world politics is concerned. The former POTUS served two tenures leaving the office on January 20, 2001.

He has an enviable wealth of experience in American politics having served two terms as the governor of his state, Arkansas. For two years, between January 3, 1977, and January 9, 1979, Clinton served as the 50th Attorney General of Arkansas.

Bill has made the Clinton name popular, something that might never have happened if his father’s early death when he was just 3 days old, didn’t influence his change of name from William Jefferson Blythe III which his biological dad gave him to Bill Clinton after a certain automobile dealer Roger Clinton Sr whom his mom would later marry in the 50s.

Born on August 19, 1946, in Hope, Arkansas, Clinton attended the town’s Hot Springs High School where he seemed to have many interests. As a young boy, Clinton dabbled in politics and served as a Boys Nation Senator. While serving in that position in 1963, Clinton was opportune to visit the White House where he met with President John F. Kennedy. Further spurring his interest in politics was Martin Luther King Jr’s famous “I Have A Dream” speech.

Bill Clinton attended Georgetown University, Washington D.C where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Foreign Service. He went to Oxford on a scholarship but would later transfer to Yale to study law. He obtained his Juris Doctor in 1973.

Clinton returned to his state after graduation and began teaching at the University of Arkansas. In 1976, he was made the Arkansas Attorney General. He became the state’s youngest governor at 32 in 1978. After serving two terms, he ran for and won the nation’s highest seat in 1992 beating incumbent George H. W. Bush.

His Net Worth

As someone who spent the most of his life in public service, Bill Clinton did not have the time to build up some business empire. Owing to the scandal that rocked his presidency and subsequently led to his impeachment in 1998, Bill accrued a lot of debts mostly to lawyers that presided over his cases. His wife revealed to the media that when they ceased to be America’s first family in 2001, they vacated the White House with no money and had to struggle to pay for mortgages and their daughter’s education.

However, the Clintons were not about to let their situation last too long. Besides politics, the next thing the Clintons are known for is speaking, a gift that Bill Clinton is specially blessed with. After leaving office, Bill began giving paid speeches to corporations and philanthropic organizations in Europe and North America and occasionally in Africa. He earns between $100,000 to $300,000 per speech and gives around a dozen annually. These speaking fees were what helped Clinton come out of debt four years after leaving office.

Business consulting and book authorship equally helped bolster Clinton’s earnings. Both Clinton and his wife are gifted speakers, thus more income. His tax income returns in 2008 showed that he had made $109 million in 8 years from 2000 to 2007 with over $90 million stemming from speaking fees and book publishing. His 2004 memoir, “My Life” grossed over $15 million. Per Forbes, Clinton and his wife earned about $240 million from 2001 to 2015. Bill Clinton’s personal fortune has been estimated at $80 million.

Affairs and Scandals

In 1998, Bill Clinton unfortunately, became the second president in America’s history to be impeached after fellow Democrat Andrew Johnson in the 1860s. Bill’s impeachment follows a sex scandal involving him and a 22-year-old White House intern Monica Lewinsky who worked in the Department of Defense.

As is always with most sex scandal cases, other dismissed cases of sexual harassment linked to Clinton were revisited after he agreed to have had an affair with Lewinsky. One of such was the 1994 sexual misconduct lawsuit filed against him by Paula Jones who claimed that Clinton harassed her in 1991. It was his statement at a deposition for the Jones suit where he denied having an affair with Lewinsky that formed the basis for his impeachment on grounds of perjury.

Clinton would finally pay an out-of-court settlement fee of $850,000 to Jones, an act, Clinton’s lawyer Robert S. Bennett said was only done to get Jones off his back. A number of other women came forth with sexual assault charges against Clinton but none seemed to hold much water.

Bill Clinton returned to his position to serve as president after the house could not come up with the required two-thirds of the majority vote to keep him impeached.

Does He Have a Son?

Ever since the emergence of the sex scandal, some guy named Danney Williams has been claiming that he is the biological son of Bill Clinton. Williams claims that Clinton in 1984 during his time as Arkansas governor had many sexual encounters with his mother Bobbie Ann Williams who worked as a prostitute in Little Rock.

In 1999, tabloid magazine Star offered to pay for a paternity test using Clinton’s DNA from the Lewinsky trial. The results came out negative. After a period of laying low, Williams who was born on December 7, 1985,  during the 2016 race to the White House. He has since requested for a second paternity test to be done. Though he has been largely ignored, Williams remains adamant and often trolls the former president . He has also made claims that Webster Hubbell and not Bill Clinton is Chelsea’s father. Hubbell worked with Hillary at Rose Law firm.
