Her now-ex-husband, Richard Lawson, played one of the key roles in the film. Gordy not only acted in the film, but he also provided vocals to the soundtrack and recorded one of its soundtracks, “Let’s Do It Again.”

Denise Gordy later appeared uncredited in Mahogany, directed by her uncle Berry Gordy and produced by his production business, Motown Records.
