Is There a New Minion Movie Coming Out?

The 3D computer-animated comedy movie has become the favorite of many anime lovers and has gained a massive following. Despite its mixed review by critics, the first movie went ahead to make more than $1 billion in the box office against a $74 million budget. It became the highest-grossing animated movie in 2015 and was the 5th highest-grossing movie of the same year. The animation movie had a target audience which was mostly children and family. This is definitely why it won the ‘Favourite Family Film’ category in the People’s Choice Awards amongst several nominations.

Minion (2015) raised the bar in the animated movie industry and it’s no surprise they have set out to do it again with a sequel. In 2017, it was officially announced that a new Minion movie was in the works but the title of the sequel – Minions: The Rise of Gru wasn’t revealed until May 2019.

When is it Going to be Released?

The sequel has been slated to be released 3rd of July 2020. While Kyle Bada is back as the director, he is joined this time around by Brad Ableson while Brian Lynch remains the writer. The shooting officially began in July 2018 which means the whole production will be done in two years. Although the director – Kyle Balda believes the two-year time frame is short when compared to what it takes to complete most animated movies, he also revealed that things were moving great and beginning to take shape as some parts are already being animated while some are still in the story development stage.

In terms of story development, it’s hard to conclude what the plot of the new Minion movie will be like as the directors and producers have been pretty tight-lipped about it. Judging from the way the first movie ended with a young Gru foiling the plan of Scarlet Overkill’s attempt to steal the crown of the Queen of England and the minions decision to follow him, it’s most likely that the Gru comes up with several hideous and felonious schemes especially now that he has millions of little yellow helpers.
