Ivana Miličević was born to Tonka and Damir Miličević as their eldest child on April 26, 1974, in the modern-day Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Ivana was brought up alongside her two younger brothers, Tomo who was the lead guitarist of the rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars and Filip who died in 2016 at the age of 33 following a heart attack. While her father worked as an agricultural engineer, her mother was a doctor.

In 1982, when she was 5, her family moved to the United States. However, they did not fully settle in the states until the Bosnian War forced the family to permanently emigrate to Troy, Michigan.

She attended Athens High School in Troy. It was while she was still there that she began modeling. She also worked as a dancer for a New Kids on the Block tribute group, Troy Kids on the Block.

After she was through with her high school education, Ivana Miličević moved to Los Angeles with the hopes of getting her acting career moving but things did not go as planned for her and so she was forced to return to Michigan where she continued as a model. She also modeled in places like New York and Milan.

Not ready to quit on her dreams, she decided to try stand-up comedy, hoping it would open doors for her to begin acting. It all worked as she was later discovered by a manager who helped her to get her first TV acting gig in 1997, in an episode of Seinfeld where she acted as Patty.
