The prank caller and reality tv star is an Alabama born comedian who was born on August 10, 1968. His real name is Broderick Smiley but he goes by Rickey and was raised in Birmingham.

An African-American, Rickey attended the Alabama State University and the Tuskegee University for his education. While he was at Alabama State University, he was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity.
Rickey’s career in comedy started in 2000 as a host of BET’s show, Comic View. He excelled in his role as a host and was promptly signed to a five-year deal. A formal contract with the TV Network allowed him to grace other TV shows such as The Nashville Network, Comic Escape, and Uptown Comedy Club. He has also worked on the iconic Comedy show, HBO’s Def Comedy Jam.

Rickey’s act before finding his niche in prank calls mostly involved playing outrageous fictional characters. He found his place in the comedy world when he joined a Dallas radio station, KBFB in 2004. He was offered a chance to become the host of their morning radio show. One of the prominent features of the show was the trademark phone calls that Rickey Smiley is now known for. Along with information, news, and playing of the latest hip-hop music, the show quickly became popular among listeners. In 2008, he was offered a chance to take his hit show nationwide and he embraced the deal.

The show, The Rickey Smiley Morning Show gained much popularity from prank calls which involve the comedian disguising his voice and calling a random number to the amusement of listeners. Some of the most notable pranks he has carried out are ‘Uncle Melvin’ where he called his uncle and pretended to be a man who is convinced his girlfriend has left him. He took the joke further by making sure the character punctuates his every remark with the word ‘dawg’.

Due to the popularity of his show, especially the prank calls, Rickey Smiley has released albums of his prank calls, totaling six albums with the album, Rickey Smiley: Vol 6 being a bestselling comedy album on iTunes. Outside the radio boot, Rickey has appeared in several films and TV shows, including getting his own reality TV show, Rickey Smiley for Real in 2015. His filmography lists movies like Friday After Next (2002) and Baggage Claim (2013).
