Jo Koy whose real name is Joseph Glenn Herbert was born into a Filipino-American family on the 2nd of June, 1971. He is known professionally as a stand-up comic.

He performs in clubs and different theatres across the country. Prior to this, his gigs were limited and he could go close to three years with just over three shows. This was a tough period for him, nevertheless, his passion for performing on stage kept him going. Professionally, his career kicked off in 1994 at a comedy club in Las Vegas after which he moved from open mic night to a regular spot on the show Catch a Rising Star at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino.

Television was always the plan when he started his career and would achieve this much later when he made his first Television appearance on The Black Entertainment Television (BET) on the BET’s ComicView. On the show, he has been on two highly successful seasons. On the 23rd of July 2012, he partnered with the comedian and Tv host  Michael Yo to start a podcast. The podcast has been remarked as a successful and wonderful effort from both comedians.

Till date, he can be heard as a weekly guest on the podcast, The Adam Carolla Show. This would further help him expand his reach and in turn, his audience. One thing that endeared him to the hearts of his fans includes numerous impressions from P.F. Chang’s Greeter to angry black cabbie. On March 28, 2017, his career reached a new height as his third comedy special, “Jo Koy: Live from Seattle” was aired on Netflix. This is something he has described as a great deal and one of the defining moments of his career.

Having sold out 11 shows at the Neal Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, and broken records at the ShoWare Center near his hometown of Seattle, Jo Koy started a new tour which he called “Break The Mold” in 2018 which received rave reviews.

Josie Harrison is the name of Jo’s mum, he grew up in a Filipino-American household. When he was was only 10-years old, his biological father abandoned the family, leaving his mother to care for him and his three other siblings all by herself. As a result of this, Jo always pays tribute to his Filipino mother and speaks highly of his Filipino heritage in his stand-up acts. He has two sisters whose names are Rowena Hebert and Gemma Herbert.” His only brother Robert Hebert who is older than him, happens to be afflicted with schizophrenia.

Jo Koy is a very private celebrity when it comes to his relationships, and very little is known about this side of him. During interviews or when asked about his wife, he never says her name but chooses to use terms like “The mother of my child,” or “My ex-wife” in referring to the woman who gave birth to his child. This has been criticized by many who can’t understand why he can’t seem to mention the woman’s name, however, he seems to be unperturbed and insists that it is his private life and his own business and thus he will like to keep it that way.

Nevertheless, there have been rumors of a secret marriage with speculations that his first marriage probably crashed due to differential issues. With an estimated calculation between his child’s age and when he became famous in the comic sphere, it is speculated that his relationship with the mother of his child must have ended around the time of his son’s birth. So far, Jo Koy has just one son from his previous relationship. His name is Joseph and he born on 21st April 2003.

Girlfriend 

There were speculations that Jo Koy was in a relationship with actress Tia Carrere, but no concrete evidence has been given. He has been spotted with some ladies at different times and pictures as well have been seen on his social media page but Jo has never confirmed if he is actually dating any of them making harder to actually tell the fact about his relationship status.
