Having ruled the country since 2011, Kim, who is also the leader of the Workers’ Party of Korea has remained very significant in world politics and world peace, mostly as a result of the military strength of the country. Here is all to know about him.

Kim Jong-un Bio

It was on born 8 January 1984 that Kim was born in North Korea. Even though it was in the country that he was raised, Kim left home for his education.

He went to Switzerland to attend the Liebefeld Steinhölzli state school which he did as the son of an official from North Korea. The name he used there was Pak-un. While he was not good with academics, he had it good with sports. His next place of education was the Kim Il-sung University in his home country followed by the Kim Il-sung Military University.

Kim Jong-un took over the reins of the East Asian nation following the death of his father in 2011. He took over power ahead of his brother who fell out of favour with his father after he made attempts to sneak out of the country to Japan to see Disneyland.

Since he took over power, Jong-un worked on establishing his power at home by allegedly killing his uncle and in the world by showing off his nuclear might. Nonetheless, after a Twitter fight with the American president, , that led to name-callings, they both decided to meet in 2018 and work towards denuclearization the country and bringing to an end, the Korean war that has sustained for over 60 years.

Family: Father, Sister, and Brother

As indicated, the leader of North Korea before 2011 was Kim Jong-il, who was the father of Kim Jong-un and he got to rule the country after the death of his father, Kim Il-sung. Kim Jong-un’s mother was Ko Young-hui. She was regarded as The Mother of Great Songun Korea before her death in 2004.

Although the favourite child of his father, Kim Jong-un was not raised as an only child as his father also had other children including his sister, Kim Yo-Jong and his brother Kim Jong Chol. The problem the late leader had with Kim Jong Chol was that he behaved like a woman and that was why he loved Kim Jong-un who is the younger of the two.

More so, because it is said that the former leader had at least three wives, it is believed that the North Korean Supreme leader also has half-siblings including Kim Jong-Nam who was poisoned allegedly by two women at the Kuala Lumpur Airport in Malaysia. The death of Jong-Nam was as a result of a chemical poison that is said to be the most potent of all nerve agents.

North Korea insisted that the two women that last came in contact with Jong-Nam were responsible for his death, many insisted that Kim Jong-un has something to do with it. This is because Jong-Nam was not only the eldest of their father’s sons, he was supposed to be the rightful heir to the throne until he lost it. It gets even more interesting to note that Jong-Nam said his brother becoming the leader of North Korea was a joke and that Jong-un would not last in power.

Soon afterwards, the eldest Kim didn’t lose all his entitlements, but he also had to struggle hard to stay alive following a number of attempts on his life. After his death, Kim Jong-Nam left behind a wife and a son.

While the North Korean dictator has grown to be very close to his sister who was born on 26 September 1989 and whom he has used in some political activities, making her the Vice Director of the Propaganda and Agitation Department of the Workers’ Party of Korea, he has another half-sister who was birthed by his father’s first wife. Her name is Kim Sul Song.

Wife and Daughter

In 2009, he got married to. Because the country is notorious for its secrecy, not much is known about Sol-ju who is the respected first lady of the country or Comrade Ri Sol-ju. Nevertheless, it has been pointed out that the marriage was organized by Kim Jong-un’s father after he had suffered a stroke.

A graduate of the Kim Il-sung University, she was said to be born between 1985 and 1989. Although they had been married for some time, it was only in 2012 that they were seen together in public.

The couple’s first child was born in 2009 before information would surface that a daughter was later birthed after the first child. The daughter, Kim Ju-ae was born in 2013. The name of the daughter was leaked by who has become a very close friend of the North Korean leader. Apart from the first child and Kim Ju-ae, it is believed that there could be another child.

Height and Weight

In the same way as almost everything about Kim, his height has not been without a little dispute. Officially, he is said to stand at 5 feet 7 inches tall, however, a picture of himself and South Korean leader, Moon Jae-In showed that the latter is a little taller even though he is recorded as having a height of 5 feet 6 inches. With that, it is believed that Jong-un may as well be 5 feet 5 inches tall.

As regards his weight, the North Korean Supreme Leader has a body weight of 136 KG (300 lbs).
