Born Lavell Maurice Crawford on November 11, 1968, in St. Louis, Missouri, Lavell Crawford is an American stand-up comedian and actor.
He began performing stand-up comedy in the 90s when he was in his early twenties. He performed at several clubs and subsequently, he scored a berth on BET’s 1990s show, Comic View. Crawford gained widespread recognition in 2007 as one of the contestants of NBC’s competitive reality show, Last Comic Standing. He emerged as the runner-up, losing the first place to Jon Reep.
His career has greatly surged since then. Like most comedians, Crawford dabbled into acting and has appeared in a handful of TV shows. The most notable of them is the role of Huell Babineaux in Breaking Bad which he portrayed from 2011 to 2013. He got to reprise his role in the 2017 spin-off Better Call Saul. Other TV shows, Crawford has been a part of include; New Girl and Legends of Chamberlain Heights. he had a voice role in Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

Lavell Crawford Dad, Mom
Crawford is one of those stars who had a difficult childhood. He struggled with his weight as a kid and at a time when he was 10 years old, he almost drowned. His hardship was compounded by the fact that his dad Daryl Crawford abandoned the family, leaving his mom Annita Crawford to raise him and his two sisters Elonda and Erica.
Crawford was for over twenty years of his life estranged from his dad. Reports surfaced that they reconciled in 2010. In a 2017 interview with VLAD TV, Crawford revealed that his dad who worked as a bodybuilder is gay – a discovery they made only after he returned to reunite with his family.
Daryl Crawford explained to his family that the reason he abandoned them was that he found out he was gay and didn’t know how to explain to them so he ran away from home. Crawford told VLAD that his wife had suspected a change in sexuality as the only reason his dad would abandon them when they were only kids. Crawford’s dad later got married to a white man who died in 2015.
Crawford’s reaction upon learning about his dad’s sexuality was weird; there was one thought that maybe his dad’s gayness could be genetic, thus he became afraid that maybe a gay switch in his system would turn on and he’d become gay too.
Explaining his views on gays, Crawford said that no matter how much they gay people are getting accepted, the fact remained that homosexuality is still “f**king weird.” He expressed that he touches on gay stuff in his jokes but is also afraid of the gay mafia, thus, he touches on it in a way he’s supposed to.
Family: Wife and Kids
Lavell Crawford is married with three kids. His wife is DeShawn Crawford. It is not known when Crawford and his wife tied the knot, however, chances are that it could have been in the 90s as two of their kids that are in their twenties.
Crawford isn’t really open when it comes to his personal life, thus, for a long time, many publications (reputable ones inclusive) recorded that he has just one kid. That record was officially nullified in 2017 when Crawford told the media that he has three kids including two boys and a daughter. One of his sons and daughter are in their twenties while the other son was born around 2011.

Crawford’s most notable trademark over the years has been his weight. However, sometime in 2015, he began his journey to losing weight. During his 2016 visit to Sway In the Morning show, that he chose to lose weight so he could stay around longer for his wife and kids and won’t want to leave his wife hanging.
After a period of losing weight via dieting and exercising, Crawford underwent a gastric sleeve surgery in March 2016. According to , the surgery is done in two stages, one year apart from the other. Crawford has done the first stage which involves the reduction of the stomach size.
Lavell Crawford during his overweight years weighed up to 475 Pounds. He has now dropped 120 pounds and he is down to about 350 pounds.
Crawford stands at 5 feet 10 inches (1.78 m) in height.
