Loretta Lynch is an American lawyer; most notable for being the 83rd Attorney General of the United States during President ’s administration. Prior to her appointment, Lynch worked as the Eastern District of New York Attorney under President from 1999 to 2001. She also served as one of the directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York from 2003 to 2005. Meanwhile, Lynch is the first African-American to serve as the Attorney General of the United States; as well as the second woman to be confirmed for that post.

Loretta Lynch’s Bio

Loretta Elizabeth Lynch was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on May 21, 1959, to African-American parents. Her father Lorenzo Lynch is a Baptist minister; while her mother Lorine Lynch worked as a school librarian. She holds an American nationality and belongs to the Afro-American ethnicity. She nursed a dream of becoming an attorney after hearing the story of her grandfather who helped people move to the north in order to escape prosecution during the 1930s.

Lynch graduated from Harvard College with a degree in English and American literature in 1981. She went on to obtain her Juris Doctor certificate from Harvard Law School in 1984. While she was there, Lynch was a member of the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau; as well as Delta Sigma Theta and Xi Tau sororities.

Professional Career

Soon after her graduation, Lynch began her law career as a litigation associate at a New York-based law firm called Cahill, Gordon & Reindel in 1984. She worked there for about five years and when she left in 1990; she joined the Eastern District of New York where she worked as a prosecutor in the attorney’s office. In 1994, she served as a chief of the Long Island Office and while she was there; she worked on several cases of corruption facing the Brookhaven government in New York. She was promoted to the position of chief assistant US Attorney in the Eastern District and headed the Brooklyn office from 1998 to 1999.

Following her impressive track record, Lynch was appointed by President Bill Clinton to serve as the US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York from 1999 to 2001. Leaving the US Attorney’s office in 2001; she became a legal partner at Hogan & Hartson until 2010. While working with Hogan & Hartson, she served as a special counsel to the prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in 2005.

In 2010, she was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve as the US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York and in 2014; she was nominated by Obama to replace the US Attorney General Eric Holder who resigned from duty. She was confirmed by the Senate Judiciary Committee on February 26, 2015. Following her confirmation, Loretta Lynch became the second woman after Janet Reno and the first Afro-American woman to serve in that position. She left the office in January 2017 and was succeeded by Jeff Sessions.

Bill Clinton Mess

While Loretta Lynch was serving as the United States Attorney General, she worked on several high profile cases including that of the former FBI boss and ’s email controversy during the 2016 presidential election campaign. While the investigations were at its peak in 2016; Lynch had a meeting with former President Bill Clinton aboard the Justice Department jet in Phoenix, Arizona. The meeting turned out to be a mess as it raised several eyebrows; thus, arousing suspicion that they had met in reference to his wife’s case. Lynch apparently denied the allegation, saying that their discussion was based on personal social topics.

Later on, in January 2017, the Senate Judiciary launched an investigation to know whether Lynch tried to interfere with Hillary Clinton’s email investigation. In June 2018, The Justice Department Inspector General released the investigation report where he said that their meeting was an error of judgment for the public perception it created. Additionally, the report found no political bias from their meeting.

Loretta Lynch’s Husband

Loretta Lynch is married to Stephen Hargrove. Lynch’s husband is a former show time employee; he has worked as an on-air technician and on the set of famous television series including House of Lies, Dreadful, Dexter, and Homeland. The amazing couple first met during a mutual friend’s event held in New York. Shortly afterwards, they fell in love with each other and in 2007, they tied the knot. Their wedding was held on the Caribbean Island of St. Thomas.

Prior to their marriage, Hargrove already had two children from his past relationship and after their marriage; the couple never considered having their own children. Instead, they shared their love between their two children. They have been enjoying a blissful married life for over ten years and there’s no sign of marital issues between them.
