Nayyera Haq was born on October 1, 1981. She grew up in Staten Island, South Western part of New York City. She attended the University of Michigan where she graduated with a degree in History. Unsatisfied with her academic pursuit, and still driven by the values inculcated in her from childhood by her parents, Haq decided to further her education by obtaining a Master’s degree in Law and Journalism from the prestigious Georgetown University Law Center in Washington DC.

Nayyera’s career started in the early 2000s when she worked as a media advisor to , a then-Democrat leader. She also worked with other congressmen and garnered a lot of experiences in her stint there. In 2006, she became a national spokesperson for the Children’s Defence Fund.
