Nayyera Haq was born on October 1, 1981. She grew up in Staten Island, South Western part of New York City. She attended the University of Michigan where she graduated with a degree in History. Unsatisfied with her academic pursuit, and still driven by the values inculcated in her from childhood by her parents, Haq decided to further her education by obtaining a Master’s degree in Law and Journalism from the prestigious Georgetown University Law Center in Washington DC.

Nayyera’s career started in the early 2000s when she worked as a media advisor to , a then-Democrat leader. She also worked with other congressmen and garnered a lot of experiences in her stint there. In 2006, she became a national spokesperson for the Children’s Defence Fund. As she grew further in the political path, Nayyera became the White House’s Senior Director of Cabinet Affairs.

She was the Director of Communications for the Presidential Campaign of Barrack Obama – who was then a senator, seeking election as President of the United States. After Obama won the elections, she was appointed as a senior director in the US White House. Nayyera Haq also worked as a spokesperson and senior director for the State Department, as well as the Treasury Department.

Nayyera Haq was born to Pakistani parents who immigrated into the United States. Right from a very young age, her parents taught her that for her to get half of what other privileged ones have, she has to put in twice as much work. Her parents are both Muslims. She was born and brought up in the Islamic religion which she embraced from childhood. Nayyera is happily married to her African-American, Muslim husband, whom she revealed is a veterinary doctor. She, however, did reveal that her husband is from Oakland in the United States and that he grew up breeding snakes and worked on a farm when he was not in school.


Her husband graduated from Tuskegee University, Alabama in the United States. His parents, she also mentioned, were not originally Muslims, but they got converted to Islam in the days of Mohammed Ali’s conversion and that of Malcolm X. The couple welcomed their first child, a son named Idris, in November 2016. Young Idris is very often seen in his mother’s several posts and pictures on her social media handles.
