When it comes to those who have experience in business and finance, Sajid Javid is your go-to person. However, after growing his career to the top as the managing director at Deutsche Bank, he entered the political sphere in 2009 and has become an icon therein.

Javid is a member of the Conservative Party who has been serving as the Secretary of State for the Home Department since April 2018. Sajid Javid Biography

It was in Rochdale, Lancashire, that Sajid Javid was born on the 5th day of December 1969 to Pakistani immigrants, and he is one of their five sons. He moved with his family to Stapleton Road, Bristol, where his parents owned a shop where they sold clothes.

He was a precocious child and took interest in things that ordinarily do not fancy kids. His interests comprise the financial market and politics. Thus, he followed the Thatcher government’s privatizations as a teenager and at 14, he set out to invest in shares by borrowing £500 from a bank.

Javid attended Downend School, a state comprehensive near Bristol where he graduated in 1986. Following that, he attended Filton Technical College from 1986 to 1988 and then, the University of Exeter where he studied Economics and Politics, graduating in 1991. At the university, he became a member of the Conservative Party and attended his first annual Conservative Party Conference at the age of 20.

Upon graduating, he started his career in the banking sector. He first worked at the Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City where he became the vice president at the age of 25 before returning to London in 1997. In 2000, he joined Deutsche Bank as a director but rose quickly to become a senior managing director before leaving in 2009 to foster a career in politics.

After the 2010 general elections, Sajid Javid became a Member of Parliament (MP) for Bromsgrove. He was promoted to Economic Secretary to the Treasury in September 2012 and Financial Secretary to the Treasury in October 2013. He was appointed to the Cabinet as Culture Secretary (2014-2015) by then Prime Minister, David Cameron and was made a Privy Councillor shortly after.

From 2015 to 2016, he served as Business Secretary and Communities Secretary from 2016-18 during which he affected positive changes to the sector, before taking up the appointment as Home Secretary. He is also the Ministerial Champion for the Midlands Engine since July 2016.

Following the resignation of the former Home Secretary, Amber Rudd, Sajid Javid was appointed as the new Secretary of State for the Home Department on 30 April 2018 by the current Prime Minister, Theresa May.

Wife and Family Life

Javid was born in a family of seven and was raised in a two-bedroom flat above a shop in Bristol with his four brothers; Tariq, Bas, Khalid, and Atif. His family’s heritage is Muslim but he is not practicing the religion. His parents’ names are Abdul Ghani-Javid who worked as a bus driver and Zubaid Javid.

Tariq was a successful businessman and managed a supermarket chain until his death in July 2018. Bas worked with the Royal Navy and is now the Commander of Solihull Police division. While Khalid is a financial advisor, Atif is a multi-millionaire property tycoon.

Sajid married Laura King in 1997 after he met her during a summer job and they are proud parents of four children; three daughters and a son. Laura is a Christian. The family lives in Fulham and also owns properties in Chelsea, Bristol, and Bromsgrove.

4. Since he assumed office as the MP for Bromsgrove, he has held three annual Jobs Fairs and a Pensioners Fair. Also, his tenure has seen unemployment reduce by 55% and the creation of new businesses in Bromsgrove is at a record rate.
