Boy bands continue to attract a certain universal appeal regardless of location and genre. The veteran South Korean boy group Super Junior bears testament to this. Formed on November 6, 2005, by producer Lee Soo Man of SM Entertainment, the Super Junior members have won thirteen Mnet Asian Music Awards, nineteen Golden Disc Awards and the 2008 MTV Asia Awards for Favorite Artist Korea.

This huge stride was further amplified with the release of their massively successful 2009 album and single of the same name Sorry, Sorry. The success of the album became a career-defining moment for the South Korean boy group, earning them several more awards, accolades, and international recognition.

However, the Super Junior band have not been immune to internal crisis that has led to the exit of some of its members. Nonetheless, it has managed to remain a knit unit with remaining members planning a comeback.

Super Junior Members Profile

Officially debuting in 2006, the group had a total of thirteen members but by May 7, 2019, that number had whittled down to nine after three of the band members officially left. Here is a brief profile of Super Junior’s nine active members:

Leeteuk

Born Park Jung Soo on July 1, 1983, Leeteuk positions as the band group’s vocalist, leader, and rapper. He’s been on two of the five splinter units of the group Super Junior T and Super Junior Happy. In 2012, he appeared on the TV show We Got Married and completed his mandatory military service in 2014. He hopes to be a producer in the future. Although not much is known about his parents, we know of his older sister, named Park Inyoung.

Heechul

Heechul was born Kim Hee Chul on July 10, 1983, in Hoengseong, South Korea. He grew up with parents and older sister Kim Heejin. As a trainee, he was a  member of a group maned “4 Seasons”. He’s been a co-host of the Korean show Weekly Idol which is now being considered as the longest-running variety shows on South Korea’s satellite TV. Also known by his English name Casey Kim, Heechul loves playing Piano and Drums and he is the main host of the beauty show, Lipstick Prince. In 2013, he completed his military service.

Yesung

Kim Jong Hoon was born on the 24th of August, 1984 but he grew up in South Chungcheong, South Korea, with his parents and younger sibling Kim Jong-jin. He was on Super Junior K.R.Y and Super Junior Happy, both splinter groups of Super Junior. In 2015, he completed his military service and shortly after be he became a Super junior member as its main vocalist.

Shindong

Born in North Gyeongsang of South Korea, Shindong is the group’s choreographer and lead rapper. His real name is Shin Dong Hee and his birth date is September 28, 1985. Shindong has been on Super Junior T and Super Junior Happy. He completed his military service in 2016 and loves dancing.

Eunhyuk

 

Born April 4, 1986, as Lee Hyuk Jae, Eunhyuk has been part of the reality show “Under 19”. Eunhyuk has his English name as Spencer Lee and he is 5 feet, 9 inches tall. Although he grew up in a family that suffered financial difficulties, the young artist has helpfully uplifted his family standard through his musical talent. He is Super Junior’s lyricist and co-dancer and has been on SuJu’s T, Happy and M. He completed his military service in 2017.

Donghae

Donghae is the group’s rapper. He’s been on Super Junior M and Donghae and Eunhyuk and has received an award in the group. In 2017, he completed his military service. Donghae was born Lee Dong Hae on October 15, 1986. He is a great dancer but he wishes to become a professional athlete (soccer).

Siwon

With his English name as David Joseph Choi, Choi Si Won was born on April 7, 1986. He has appeared on many reality TV shows including We Got Married, Precious Family and  Poseidon. He is the group’s vocalist and in 2017, he successfully completed his military service.

Siwon is quite tall with a height measurement of 6’0″. His best instruments are drums, piano, and guitar

Ryeowook

Kim Ryeo Wook positions as the group’s co-vocalist. He was on the splint units Suju K.R.Y and M. His hobbies are singing and songwriting. He was born on June 21, 1987, and in 2018, he was discharged from his compulsory military service.

Kyuhyun

Born Cho Kyu Hyun on February 3, 1988, Kyuhyun joined the group in 2006 and is a co-vocalist. He appeared on KBS’ “Exciting India” in 2015 and has been on the splints Suju K.R.Y and M. He completed his military service in May 2019 and is a talented clarinet player.

 

Super Junior Members Comeback

On June 3, 2019, the Super Junior members announced a comeback with their 9th album to celebrate their 15th anniversary after a 2-year hiatus. According to the group, the album will be having only the nine remaining active members on it and will happen at the tail end of the year 2019.
