Sheryl was born Sheryl Patrice Underwood on the 28th of October 1963 in Little Rock, Arkansas as a twin. Both she and her twin sister were premature babies and had to spend some time in the incubator. While Sheryl survived, her sister did not. To this day, she carries around the birth certificate of her late sister.

She was raised in Little Rock but when she came of high school age, she relocated to Atwater, California and attended high school there. She then attended the University of Illinois, Chicago where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts. Despite the personal troubles that plagued her life, Sheryl kept pushing ahead in life.

Following college, she served in the military. While she focused on her academics, Sheryl did not ignore her comic abilities which brought her first taste of fame in 1989 when she emerged as the first ever female finalist at the Miller Lite Comedy Search and the rest, as they say, is history.

Underwood holds a master’s degrees in Media Management and Mass Communication from Governors State University. She is a lifetime member of the Zeta Phi Beta sorority, and a member of NAACP.

It is no news that Sheryl Underwood had a difficult childhood. She endured domestic violence from her mother, Joyce Evelyn Underwood. As a kid, Sheryl was lied to by her mother who told her that her twin sister was murdered by her own father Cleo Underwood. This, Joyce did to taint Sheryl’s father’s image and avoid her getting close to him. When Sheryl began building a relationship with her father, her mother tried to murder their father by stabbing him so that Sheryl would not learn the truth. When Sheryl was raped after getting her college degree, her mother blamed her. Sadly the rapist was never found.

Sheryl’s family includes a brother named Michael and an older sister named Frankie who was diagnosed with polio as a kid and remains disabled to this day. She stopped growing at 18 months old but would go on to develop womanly features. Also, she has had stunted brain development and can neither read nor write. Who is Sheryl Underwood’s Husband?

Over the years, Sheryl Underwood has largely remained mum over issues concerning her romantic life. However, in the fall of 2011, she revealed to the media that she had lost her husband to suicide. Her revelation came over two decades after her husband’s death. One can’t help but assume that maybe the traumatized childhood that Sheryl underwent has had some degree of influence on her romantic life.

Her husband’s name was revealed to be Michael, he was a chef. Sheryl dated Michael for about 7 years before they tied the knot in 1987, however, their marriage would go on to last for just three years after Michael took his own life on the third year of their union. He had been going through clinical depression and jumped off a building after an attempted drug overdose.

Sheryl narrated to in 2016 that on the morning of her husband’s death she made him a German chocolate cake and bid him bye before she went out saying the words ‘I’ll see you when you get home.’ Sadly that was the last time Sheryl was to set eyes on her husband alive as she came back to meet a suicide note he had left her. Despite her hefty tragedies, Sheryl is thankful for her journey which she reveals has made her stronger.

She had no child with her late husband Michael and she has not been married to another since his passing.
