As Apple’s streaming service, Apple TV+ kicks off this fall, there’s one show that everyone is particularly looking forward to, the highly anticipated space miniseries, For All Mankind. 

Set in a world where the Space Race never ended, it follows the 60s NASA astronauts, engineers and their families in an alternate history where the Russians beat the Americans to the moon. As a result, the US redoubles its efforts and begins to recruit female astronauts in an effort to keep up with the space race.

Ahead of its debut on November 1, 2019, it has been revealed that the network has already renewed it for a second season.

1. How It All Started

For All Mankind began in the mind of Ronald D. Moore, imagining what would have happened if the global space race had never ended. Moore is the creator of Syfy’s Battlestar Galactica reboot and Starz’s Outlander.

The idea to create a TV show to depict a world with the global space race still on was initiated during a lunch with former NASA astronaut, Garrett Reisman. The duo discussed the possibility of an alternate history where the Soviet Union beats the USA to the Moon.

Moore started planning a space drama with a “what if” plot. Then, in December 2017, it was announced that Apple had ordered the production of a 10 episode one season series. Together with Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi, Moore wrote the script and the trio will also executive produce the drama which was officially titled For All Mankind on October 5, 2018.

2. For All Mankind Launches This Fall

Principal photography commenced in August 2018 in Los Angeles, California and by March 2019, the filming has been concluded. It will be distributed by Apple Inc. with Sony Pictures Television and Tall Ship Productions also involved in the production.

The space race alt-history drama is expected to debut with the streaming service on the 1st of November, 2019. Apple’s new premium subscription TV service will cost $4.99 per month for all the family.

3. Each Episode of For All Mankind Will Be An Hour-Long of Exciting Actions and Reflections

For its first run, For All Mankind will a ten-episode series which will run on Apple TV+ from November 1st to December 20th, 2019 and each of the episodes will be an hour long.

4. The Space Miniseries Assembles Amazing Cast And Characters

Set in a world where the global space race never ended, For All Mankind assembles an amazing cast and fascinating characters. The series stars Suicide Squad‘s in a regular role as a top NASA astronaut Edward Baldwin alongside Patriot‘s Michael Dorman and Sarah Jones of as Gordo and Tracy Stevens, a prominent couple at NASA. Shantel VanSanten of , Outcast‘s Wrenn Schmidt and Jodi Balfour of are also cast in regular roles. Eric Ladin, Arturo Del Puerto, and Rebecca Wisocky will appear in recurring roles.

For All Mankind will also feature a number of real historical figures from the era including , , Buzz Aldrin, Deke Slayton, Pete Conrad, Gene Kranz, Michael Collins, Thomas O. Paine, and Wernher von Braun.

NASA flight director, Gerry Griffin, as well as engineer and former NASA astronaut – Garrett Reisman, both serve as technical advisors on the series. Together with Moore, the two strive to keep things as accurate as possible to the time period.

5. Production For ‘For All Mankind’ Season 2 Has Already Begun

Even though Apple TV+ hasn’t launched yet, it has renewed some of its shows which will be available at launch. They include a post-apocalyptic thriller starring  named See, the led comedy – Dickinson about the , a detective drama based on the young journalist – Hilde Lysiak’s life titled Home Before Dark, an anthology immigrant comedy – Little America, and of course, the sci-fi web TV miniseries For All Mankind, among others.

Ahead of its premiere, the series has allegedly been renewed for a second season. That means we won’t have to wait too long after watching the first season. Kinnaman, one of the show’s cast has lent credence to the claim by confirming that the second season will begin shooting soon.
