Considering Chris Gethard’s personality and career path it would not be out-of-place to assume that the conventional bores him – and it does. Chris is an American actor, writer, and most importantly, comedian. He is mostly known for being the host of the comedy show The Chris Gethard Show. The show which is based in New York City was originally a live show performing at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. It eventually evolved into a comedy phone-in and variety talk show on Manhattan Neighbourhood Network on June 22, 2011.
He is also the host of the podcast Beautiful Anonymous and co-host of the podcast In Your Dreams.
Chris Gethard’s biography and career
Gethard was born and raised by his parents, Ken and Sally Gethard in West Orange, New Jersey. The comedian was born on May 23, 1980, and when he was of age, he was enrolled at West Orange High School. There are no details about his time in high school. However, Chris attended Rutgers University.
In 2000, while at Rutgers, he began taking improvisational acting classes at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. It was here that he met a number of people who would be instrumental down the line in putting together his self-titled talk show, Comedy Central’s The Christ Gethard Show. The show was eventually picked up by Fusion, and subsequently by truTV in 2017.
While studying at the Citizen’s Brigade theatre, he was also a member of the long-form improvisational team known as The Stepfathers. He would later write the web series titled The Most Awkward Boy In The World. The series also starred his friend and Stepfathers member, Zach Woods.
Chris has an extensive acting portfolio. The comedian appeared in the 2009 movie titled May The Best Man Win as a character named Tommy. In 2014, he portrayed a character named Dr. Jordan Reed in Phil Alden’s movie The Angriest Man in Brooklyn. On the movie, he got to work with the famous Robin Williams.
In the third installation of the Iron Man movies, Iron Man 3, Gethard played the role of a character simply known as Juan, although the role was uncredited. He was Bill in the 2016 movie Don’t Think Twice and played himself in Ghostbusters in the same year. Gethard has also worked with names like Anna Faris, John Reilly, Will Ferrell, P.Diddy, and Hugh Jackman.
He has also hosted, featured, and guest starred on a plethora of television talk shows and series, particularly since 2004. He was a writer and an extra for the Comedy Central show Crossballs: The Debate Show. He was also a guest writer on an episode of Saturday Night Live in 2007, an episode that featured Scarlett Johansson. In 2015, he joined Amy Schumer on her comedy television series Inside Amy Schumer. In 2017, he appeared as himself in the HBO special Chris Gethard: Career Suicide.
While his career as an actor and comedian was burgeoning, Chris began to devote time in writing. True to his nature, he authored a book title Weird NY. The book is a collection of folklore, urban legends, and ghost stories of New York City. He also wrote another title A Bad Idea I’m About To Do which is a journal of a series of happenings from his personal life. Gethard at one point also served as editorial assistant for the semi-annual magazine, Weird NJ, and for the History Channel’s reality television series, Weird U.S. The show was created by the founders of Weird NJ, Mark Moran, and Mark Sceurman.
Gethard even has an album to his name. He released his first album aptly titled My Comedy Album under Giovanni Records on April 22, 2014. It was heralded as one of the best comedy albums of the year by The A.V. Club. It also received a near perfect score of 9.2/10 from Paste Magazine.

Chris is married to the leader of the band on his self-titled show. Her name is Hallie Bulliet. The couple had been dating for sometime before Chris popped the question and subsequently married her on August 30, 2014. The service was carried out by fellow Murf Meyer, who is also a member of the cast on The Chris Gethard Show.
Hallie is a New York trained performing artist. She made her debut on the Broadway show RENT. She is also a songwriter, singer, and instrumentalist. Bulliet has toured extensively with her band The Unlovables and Hiccup, and The Hissyfits. her songs have been heard on networks like MTV and used on children’s shows on The Cartoon Network. She has also appeared on shows like Live with Regis and Kelly, and Good Morning America.

The Smiths is an English rock band formed in 1982 in Manchester. Gethard is an avid fan of their music and even has two tattoos inspired by the band. He has an actual signature of the band’s vocalist Morrisey, tattoed on his right shoulder. And on his right biceps, he printed the words “It takes strength to be gentle and kind”. The words are a lyric from the band’s song I Know It’s Over.
2. A certified weirdo
The comedian is either nonchalant about his wellbeing and safety or he has an unwavering faith in the goodwill of strangers. Gethard once hitchhiked all the way to Bonnaroo in Tennessee from Los Angeles, relying on nothing but help from strangers. He documented the entire experience in a series of YouTube videos. One of the videos memorably shows him driving a fire truck.

During one of the episodes of his show The Chris Gethard Show, a woman called in and asked Chris point-blank what the purpose of the show was. Chris’s response underscores his talent as a master-interactor. He invited the woman to join their cast and she became a regular for four months. This started a trend of occasionally having a random fan join the cast for 15 episodes.
