Cats is an upcoming British-American musical film directed by award-winning director Tom Hooper. The acclaimed director also teamed up with renowned English playwright Lee Hall to develop the screenplay. The production team of Cats comprises of a bunch of talented British producers. They include the likes of Debra Hayward, Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, and Tom Hooper who all came together to work in the movie.

The Plot of Cats

The storyline of Cats is developed from both Andrew Lloyd Webber’s stage musical titled Cats and a poem from T.S Elliot’s 1939 ‘Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats’. This is the very first time that the widely acclaimed musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber is adapted for the big screen.

The plot of the upcoming musical film reveal scenes that tell the tale of a tribe of cats known as the Jellicles. The entire film is played out in one night as the Jellicles come together for their yearly celebrations during which they will also make the Jellicle choice that is normally made every year. The Jellicle cats lobby to be selected by their matriarch to ascend to the Heaviside Layer which is more like a heaven for the cats. The selected cat is offered a chance to enter into a new life.

The main characters in the film include the old matriarch Old Deuteronomy played by Judi Dench, the villain Macavity portrayed by Idris Elba, Grizabella played by Jennifer Hudson, the flirtatious Bombalurina played by Taylor Swift, Rum Tum Rugger portrayed by Jason Derulo, Bustopher Jones played by James Corden and Jennyanydots portrayed by Rebel Wilson. The veteran English actors, Sir Ian McKellen and Ray Winstone, portray the roles of Gus the Theatre Cat and Growltiger respectively.

Cats’ Release Date

Fans and movie lovers have waited earnestly for the official release date of the upcoming American fantasy movie. For many, the wait has been endless as they cannot wait any longer to see their favorite actors and actresses portray the brilliant characters in Cats.

Universal Pictures initially released a featurette showing the behind-the-scenes footage of the film’s production, as well as interesting interviews with the crew and members of the cast. The three and a half-minute featurette also gave fans an insight into the type of technology deployed in the creation of the characters for Cats.

After the featurette, the first trailer for the upcoming musical film was aired on July 18, 2019. However, the trailer was not a critical success as it received many negative reviews. Notwithstanding that fact, Universal Pictures went ahead to set a date for the official release of Cats for December 19, 2019.

Rating

The trailer of the upcoming musical released on July 18, 2019, did not meet a warm reception. Despite the fact that there were no nude human scenes, critics heavily criticized the film for being extremely sexy owing to the curvy nature of some of the naked cats which were enhanced by their costumes

The approval ratings and weighted average scores of the fantasy thriller have not yet been released on any film review website. Rotten Tomatoes, a well-known film review aggregator site, is yet to publish the critical reviews received for the upcoming film.

However, following the negative reviews gotten by the Cats trailer, we do not expect a very positive approval rating for the full film. Moreso, the MPAA rating of the feline film is also yet to be released, although we anticipate its release as soon as the full film hits the theatres.
