Eugene Levy is a comedic actor and all-around entertainer that is best known for his role as Noah Levenstein in the American Pie film series. The recipient of the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards, which is Canada’s highest honor in the performing arts, is also a two-time Emmy Award and Grammy Award winner. Biography

Eugene Levy was born to Jewish parents; Rebecca (Kudlats) and Joseph Levy on the 17th of December, 1946 in Hamilton, Ontario. His father, who is an ethnic Sephardi Jew originally from Vidin, Bulgaria, worked as a foreman at an automobile plant while his mother, who is an Ashkenazi Jew, was a homemaker.

Levy attended high school at Westdale Secondary School before enrolling at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario where he at one time served as vice-president of the school’s film group, the McMaster Film Board. After graduating, the aspiring comedian began appearing in a number of films before going ahead to join the improvisational comedy troupe, The Second City, through which he famously went on to work on the sketch comedy series, Second City Television (1976-1984). For his work as a writer on the show, he was nominated for 4 Emmy Awards, which he won 2.

Eugene Levy’s work and performances over the years in dozens of television shows and movies have earned him a lifetime achievement award from the Governor General of Canada, as well as from the union representing Canada’s actors. Also, for his contributions to the entertainment industry and for his dedication to charitable causes, he was in 2011 made a Member of the Order of Canada. The following year, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario presented him with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.

Movies and TV Shows

Before becoming a part of the original cast of SCTV, Eugene Levy got roles in films like Foxy Lady (1971) and Cannibal Girls (1973). He further appeared in the television shows King of Kensington (1975, 1979) and The Sunshine Hour (1976). In the early 80s, at the late stages of his time on SCTV, and the 90s, Levy appeared in Splash (1984), National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983), Armed and Dangerous (1986), Club Paradise (1986), Stay Tuned (1992), Multiplicity (1996), and The Secret Life of Girls (1999), among many others.

In 1999, Levy got cast in the first American Pie movie, before going ahead to star in all eight films of the franchise. His other works during that time include Like Mike (2002), A Mighty Wind (2003, which he was awarded a Grammy Award for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television, or Other Visual Media), Bringing Down the House (2003), Cheaper by the Dozen 2 (2005), and The Man (2005).

In recent time, Eugene Levy has appeared in television shows like Package Deal (2013-2014), Working the Engels (2014), and Schitt’s Creek (2015-present), which he created and further serves as writer and executive producer. In 2016, the actor voiced the character of Charlie in the Pixar animated film Finding Dory (2016).

Together, the couple have two children; a son Daniel Joseph “Dan”, who was born on the 9th of August, 1983 and a daughter Sarah who was born on the 10th of September, 1986.

 

As the story goes, Levy wanted to make sure his children had a normal upbringing. Because of this, he opted to raise them away from Hollywood, all the way in Canada where he is originally from. After having spent their formative years in Toronto, Ontario, both Dan and Sarah made their way to Hollywood and followed in their father’s footsteps pursuing their careers in the entertainment business. Dan is an actor, writer, producer, and television personality while Sarah is an actress. The siblings are best known for their work alongside their father on Schitt’s Creek.
