For anyone following the entertainment industry in South Korea, one name that cannot be lost in the crowd is Yoo Jae Suk. He is a multitalented South Korean who has gained fame as a Comedian and TV personality. With massive followership in the country, Asia, and beyond, here is all you may want to know about him.

Who is Yoo Jae Suk?

The entertainer was born on August 14, 1972, in the south Korean capital of Seoul. Even though he was raised there, his family had to move to different places as a result of poverty. Because of this, he found himself changing schools as a child trice.

He was raised alongside his sisters by his father who worked as a local government official and his mother who did various works to help in keeping the family together and paying the fees of the kids.

For his education, he attended the Seoul Institute of the Arts after his high school to pursue his passion for entertainment. By that time, he had already started getting work as an upcoming comedian. In order to handle the things he needed to, he was forced to drop out of school.

With that stated, what has made Yoo Jae Suk popular is his work in the entertainment industry which he began in 1989 when he made an appearance in Young-gu and Daengchili. Next, he made another appearance in Tyranno’s Toenail (1994). These, however, were movies.

He would go on to make a greater name for himself as a program presenter and host of programs such as Happy Together on KBS2, Running Man on SBS, TWO YOO Project Sugar Man on JTBC, and Busted! on Netflix. All these shows are still airing. His earliest shows which he no longer hosts are Yoo Jae-suk & Kim Won-hee’s Come to Play, ! Exclamation Mark, Infinite Challenge all on MBC, and Achievable Saturday – Star Survival Donggeodongrak (Live and Fun Together). Others are Happy Together (Season 1, 2) on KBS2 and Super TV Enjoy Sunday.

As a very versatile individual, Yoo has a number of songs in the past to his credit such as All You Need Is Love which he sang along with other Infinite Challenge members, and I’m So Sexy with Park Jin-young. If you think you saw someone like him on some music videos such as the popular Gangnam Style and Gentleman, you are right, he appeared in the music videos.

With a rather very successful career, Yoo has gathered many awards to his name including the Prime Minister Award at the 3rd Korean Popular Culture and Arts Award (2013), Viewers’ Favorite TV Personality at the 9th SBS Entertainment Awards (2015), and Entertainer Star Icon at the InStyle Korea among over 50 other awards.

As indicated, Yoo Jae Suk came from a rather small family with two sisters. His mother, whom he has said he can never stop loving, is the closest person to him. Looking at all her sacrifices including cleaning his school because the family could not pay his fees, he said he can never get to repay her.

In 2008, the Running Man star got married to Na Kyung Eun whom he began dating two years earlier. She was born on 4th June 1981 and worked as an MBC announcer. The two worked together on the Infinite Challenge show which was popular in the country.

Before they started dating, it was revealed that Na Kyung Eun first made the move when she met Yoo and told him she was a fan. Before long, they exchanged numbers and things began rolling from there until they tied the knot in 2008.

Their marriage has thus far, been blessed with a son, Yoo Ji-ho who was born in 2010. Interestingly enough, the comedian had announced in 2017 that he and his wife were trying to conceive a second child. In February 2018, they announced that Na Kyung Eun was pregnant with the couple’s second child. Even though it is not known if it has been scanned to reveal the gender of the expected child, the wish of Yoo Jae Suk as he revealed in 2015, is to have a daughter as his second child.
